The National Safeguarding Office was established to deliver on the HSE’s commitment to promoting the protection, welfare and safeguarding of adults at risk of abuse. It works with many agencies, statutory, voluntary and private to ensure the HSE Adult Safeguarding Policy is implemented in a consistent manner based on strong human rights principles. The National Safeguarding Office develops national training materials in safeguarding, prepares national data on safeguarding and develops allied safeguarding procedures, guidelines and other documentation. The Office is part of the national Quality and Patient Safety function of Community Health Operations and works closely with the Safeguarding Principal Workers and the Heads of Quality, Safety and Service Improvement in the Community Healthcare Organisations. The HSE has revised the extant “Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at risk of Abuse, National Policy and Procedures “and plans are currently being developed for the implementation of an updated adult safeguarding policy. œ The Principal Social Worker will as required take a lead role on quality and practice matters and other related service developments/initiatives in the area of adult safeguarding. œ The Principal Social Worker will as required take a lead on education and training developments in the area of adult safeguarding and in the context of the implementation of a modular education programme for the revised adult safeguarding policy. œ The Principal Social Worker will as required develop guidance and support materials in relation to the implementation of the revised adult safeguarding policy. œ The Principal Social Worker will offer support, guidance and advice on social work practice matters and wider safeguarding issues to a range of relevant stakeholders and services.
