Description

Revenue, as the Irish Tax and Customs administration, plays a critical part in securing Ireland’s fiscal, social and economic foundations. The Revenue Solicitor’s Division is responsible within Revenue for providing comprehensive legal support services for Revenue, including the conduct of criminal prosecutions, tax appeals before the Tax Appeals Commission, litigation in the District, Circuit, and Superior Courts, advice in relation to insolvency matters, and legal interpretation of legislation and on a range of other areas, including commercial law, administrative law, EU law, human rights and employment law.   The Revenue Solicitor, at Assistant Secretary level, will be responsible for:   • Providing high quality legal advice and strategic direction on all aspects of Revenue’s statutory remit and related matters; • Overseeing civil litigation in all courts and other relevant fora in cases to which Revenue is a party and providing legal advice in relation to domestic and international tax and customs law, and participation in the formulation of legal policy relating to relevant tax matters; • Overseeing the management of all criminal prosecutions, both summary and indictable; • Managing and giving energetic visible leadership to the staff of the Division, supporting and giving direction to the building of capability and capacity so that the Division delivers to a consistently high standard of performance and ensuring resource optimisation and prioritisation.    The successful candidate must:   (a) Be enrolled as a practising solicitor in the State or be entitled to and be able to be enrolled as a solicitor in the State on taking up appointment as the Revenue Solicitor. and.   (b) Have at least 5 years’ post qualification experience in providing legal advice to complex organisations and/or relating to complex matters.   And must have a successful track record of:   • Significant recent senior management experience, including leading and managing teams in a large and complex organisation;  • Excellent analytical abilities required in providing legal advice in a complex and dynamic environment; • Setting the strategic direction and vision and mobilising the staff to deliver to that direction and vision.   Further details on this significant opportunity including information on how to apply and a full list of essential requirements, are available on www.publicjobs.ie.   The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 3pm on Thursday 10th December 2020.    If you feel you would benefit from a confidential discussion about this role, please contact emer.grenville@publicjobs.ie.  .
