The Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) has responsibility for the promotion, regulation and ongoing commercial development of the greyhound industry in Ireland. In response to the changing operating environment and as a result of organisation changes and strategic business initiatives, the IGB wishes to appoint a Manager of Racing Operations to give a clear focus to the racing operations function. Job Title: Manager of Racing Operations. Objectives: The IGB Strategic Plan for the period 2018-2022 has a key focus on the organisation being a racing-centric organisation with integrity and welfare considerations at its core. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering on the objectives of the Strategic Plan including innovative racing programmes and enhancement of greyhound racing as a product. Scope of the Role: Reporting to the Head of Regulation this newly created role has key responsibility for the delivery of competitive, effective, efficient and high quality racing operations across all IGB greyhound stadia and an oversight role in relation to racing operations in private stadia. A team of nine stadium-based Racing Managers, a Maintenance Projects Manager, along with associated support, maintenance and grounds staff form part of this function. The position will be based at the IGB Limerick Head Office. Key responsibilities: Strategic and ongoing review of the racing operations at all tracks. To bring forward strategic initiatives for the development of the racing product. Develop initiatives to include; breeding owning, sales, syndication and training. Review and management of prize money structures for greyhound racing. Bring forward a plan in the area of preventative maintenance routines and plans for all critical racing plant and equipment so as reduce breakdowns. Regularly produce and publish race operations related information and statistics. Review from an engineering perspective the operation of all racing related technology employed in traps, lure, timing systems, photo finish equipment. In association with the IGB Procurement Officer oversee and derive best value for spending on racing related plant, materials, equipment and parts. Have financial and budget oversight for this functional area. Prepare for media appearances, as required, including speech writing. Enhance methods of communication to internal stakeholders in written and electronic form. Hours of Work. The role is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week normally Monday to Friday but may vary depending on the needs of the business. The successful candidate will be required have work flexibility to meet the requirements of the role. Education and Preferred Behaviours and Competencies. Have significant knowledge and experience of working in the area of racing operations. Have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the statutory and regulatory framework under which the greyhound industry operates. Be comfortable and proficient around the operation of management information software systems such as RMS and Microsoft Office suite. Have excellent inter-personal, communications and presentation skills. Be able to work well with greyhound industry representative groups. Have the ability to draft reports, policies, procedures and papers for Executive, Board and external perusal. Be able to manage and give guidance to a team of Racing Managers and associated support staff who report to the role.
