Unijobs DAC are recruiting for a full time Accountant on a temporary basis, within the Research Accounts office, University of Limerick. About You. You will hold a professional Accounting qualification and demonstrate high levels of planning and organisational skills. You will have experience of working with computerised accounting systems, possess excellent spreadsheet techniques and capabilities, have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. You will provide financial advice and analysis to the research community within the University in addition to liaising with external funding agencies and partner institutes on collaborative research projects. In this role you will report to the Research Finance Manager and will work closely with the other members of the Research Finance Office. You will be required to develop and maintain relationships and liaise with other groups, both internal and external to the University. You are required to possess excellent negotiation skills with the ability to develop mutually agreeable outcomes with people at all levels. About the Role. The University has been successful in securing a significant increase in research funding and as a result of the increasing levels of awards in recent years there has been a substantial increase in the level of activity within the Research Finance Office. The research income generated by the University is in excess of €35m per annum. One of the key challenges of the role will be to meet reporting and audit deadlines while prioritising fluctuating demands on your time. A further challenge will be the identification of efficiencies and system enhancements to ensure the research finance office can continue to provide an effective high quality service to its customers from existing resources in times of increasing demands. This role will involve constant interaction with many other areas of the University in addition to external agencies and auditors. In making decisions which effect other areas it is necessary that you will have discussed proposals with those effected, will ensure that any proposals are consistent with policy and depending on the scale of the issue will have discussed the decision with the Finance Manager. Key Responsibilities. Provision of financial advice to the University research community. Budget management of research projects. Financial reporting to both internal and external constituencies. Planning and management of research audits both internal and external. Assisting with all financial aspects of research funding proposals. Accounting for research overheads in line with University policy. Financial management of the University IP assets. Financial planning and management of campus based research institutes and their assets. Management of staff in the research finance office. Liaising with colleagues within Finance, the research community and an array of external funding agencies & partner institutions. Active involvement in process improvement activities in the research finance office. Identifying and implementing on-going development of systems for reporting, analysis and control. Other work as assigned by the Research Finance Manager. Essential Criteria. Strong knowledge and experience of enterprise resource packages including year end/financial close processes, preparation of financial reports and interaction with auditors. Experience in preparation of budgets and financial proposals. Understanding of financial systems, policies and procedures. Excellent IT skills, especially knowledge of Excel. Professional accounting qualification. Desirable Criteria. Experience of staff management. Minimum 3 years post qualification experience.
