To ensure that our cell analysis products deliver outstanding performance and exceed our customers’ expectations, BD Biosciences is seeking a passionate and capable Systems Verification and Validation Scientist I to contribute to a cross-disciplinary product development team, and to develop method improvements that drive greater efficiency and productivity of the Systems Verification and Validation team. Responsibilities The Systems Verification and Validation (SVV) Scientist I participates in the definition, design, and execution of SVV activities throughout all phases of the product development process for BD Biosciences cellular analysis systems. This includes the development and execution of formal protocols, analysis and interpretation of results, and communication of results and their impact through written reports, design reviews, and interactive discussions. The Level I Scientist works under the guidance of the System Verification Lead to support the successful application of new technologies and ensure that the system design meets technical, customer, and regulatory agency requirements. He/She exercises sound, independent judgment, within generally defined practices and procedures and applies systems thinking, problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting to generate innovative ideas to improve BD products or processes. The SVV Scientist I role is a hands-on testing and problem-solving role. The Level I Scientist conducts experiments using flow cytometry and applies knowledge in scientific principles, immunology, sample manipulation, and/or immunoassays to influence best practice laboratory procedures and study designs. The individual maintains up-to-date knowledge of customer workflows and scientific advancements in flow cytometry and may be called upon to represent the voice of the customer to product developers and assist with translating the customer needs to product requirements. The SVV Scientist I may be called upon to lead studies and coordinate logistics and tasking for study personnel. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess: Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Immunology, Cell Biology, or Clinical Laboratory Science with up to 2 years relevant experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience. Hands on experience operating and troubleshooting flow cytometry analyzers and/or sorters, with knowledge of flow cytometry instrument platforms, applications and software, assay panel development and customer workflows. Strong lab skills, with ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to research and apply scientific principles to create new or optimize existing laboratory procedures. Ability to execute experiments with minimal supervision. Ability to apply creative problem solving skills to novel applications. Ability to perform basic statistical analysis and interpreting experimental results. Ability to grasp the functionality and interdependencies of complex medical device systems. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with others in a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficient in data extraction, manipulation, and interpretation. Ability to handle and process infectious blood samples in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory using universal precautions. Familiar with general GMP / GLP procedures with a strong focus on quality. Desired: ( Preferred ) MS degree in Immunology, Cell Biology or in a related scientific discipline. Knowledge or experience with genomics instrumentation, applications, and customer workflows. Working knowledge of cellular and molecular immunology, in normal and pathological conditions. Experience working within a regulated medical device industry with knowledge or experience in FDA submissions. Familiar with accreditation and guiding agencies for the clinical laboratory including CAP, CLIA, and CLSI, including experience in audits conducted by accrediting bodies. About Us.
