As a Manager you will work as part of the BD Biosciences R&D team in the development and launch of instruments, assays and reagent products and applications. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team across BD Biosciences sites, you will be responsible for managing the molecular biology and cell team in Limerick, Ireland, in addition to delivering technical guidance to projects and work streams. The Manager will work with Product Management, R&D teams (Bioinformatics, Hardware, Systems and Software), and other functional groups to ensure successful Product Development of molecular biology and cytometry instrumentation, workflows, assays, and commercial kits for BD Genomics. You will support transfer to manufacture, interacting with the Operations and Quality teams and providing technical expertise when required. Responsibilities : Leads, manages and develops a mid-size biology team. Contributes technical guidance to product and applications development, overseeing work stream activity and serving as technical lead in collaboration with internal and external colleagues or partners. Works with teams to develop project schedules and experimental plans, managing resources and prioritization of tasks to ensure completion of projects under challenging timelines. Analyzes and interprets test results, and reports and presents assay, applications and instrumentation performance data to Core Teams and senior management. Develops and maintains an understanding of the full breadth of platforms and technologies available in the clinical and non-clinical diagnostic industries. Expectation of working across geographies, diverse locations, will travel 10-20% of the time. Qualifications A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a molecular and/or cellular biology team, or a closely related discipline, is required. Experience of a Product Development system, developing and launching Life Science products or applications (e.g. measurement/test/automation equipment, molecular biology reagents/assays and consumable products) is required. Demonstrable ability to lead and motivate highly technical teams, and ability to build strong relationships, especially across scientific and technology functions. Experience of creating R&D work environments where agile product development can flourish. An M.S. degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related discipline is required. Hands-on experience with standard molecular and cell biology techniques (cytometry analysis, cell sorting, tissue culture, qPCR, Next Generation Sequencing, biomarker discovery) is required. Preferred Qualifications & Experience A Ph.D in Biology, Life Sciences or closely related discipline is preferred. Strong presentation, writing, and communication skills. Advanced analytical, problem solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills.Strong time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Strong knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing technologies, applications and associated workflows is preferred. Experience in Cell Analysis and purification platforms, FACS analysis, magnetic separation, immunology concepts is preferred. Experience working with bioinformatics teams on front-end assay designs, and back-end experimental data analysis. Experience with lab automation, data acquisition, and statistical methods is a plus. Experience writing SOPs, verification and validation protocols, and working within a Product Development or Quality Management System. About Us.
